First English Description (from Reeve, 1843, p. 40):
"Shell turbinated, slightly grooved at the base; orange-red, more or less encircled with rows of palish spots and scattered reddish-brown dots; spire depressed, tessellated with arched spots of pale and reddish-brown; apex rose-tinted.
[...] Hab. Seas of America; Lamarck.
This shell is rarely to be met with in good condition; the specimen here figured, kindly lent to me by M. Deshayes, is the best I have seen, though not displaying much variety of character in the painting."
